We must sadly say farewell to Betty Smith, who passed away recently at the marvellous age of 97.
Betty was one of the early hockey stalwarts who stood out for Angels Ladies on the early Angels trips to the regular famous tournaments in Lahr, Germany and wider afield, exotic travels such as East Africa, Zimbabwe, S.Africa, S.America. Canada & USA.
Betty had a sparkling personality, and being a farmer’s wife also had the strength & courage to stand up to Jim Pollock and his sometimes radical ideas, one of the few capable of achieving that honour!
Those of us who were lucky to have been on the early unforgettable tours will always remember her for her lively personality, openness and also her refreshing sense of humour.
Rest in Peace, Betty – we will never forget you!
